Open Parking Europe (OPE) is an initiative launched in 2020 to promote a more open, green and cooperative european parking market. We believe the customers should have pan-european, easy access to price comparisons, parking availability, ev-charging and mobile payments of parkings.
In recent years we have seen many initiatives to integrate and aggregate services and products in Europe. Examples of this are price comparison sites and the PSD2 regulation in the Banking industry. This is for the benefit of the customers and in line with the ambition and political direction indicated by the EU.
We believe however that the European parking industry is lagging behind. There are promising initiatives such as the European Parking Association and the Alliance for Parking Standard. But they are primarily formed and managed by the traditional parking industry and may have little motivation to revolutionize and facilitate a truly free market with possibility for new and creative solutions. By launching OPE we hope to create a public and political awareness of the possibilities with an open parking market, which we believe will benefit the environment, mobility and most important the customers in Europe.
We believe that the main challenges in the European parking industry are:
By opening up the parking industry there will be vast opportunities to create new, integrated services to benefit the customers, environment and European mobility such as:
- Convenient price comparison services.
- Location of car parking with EV charging.
- Aggregate parkings from public- and private sector.
- True availability, where multiple/all providers can be visible in one solution.
- Possibility to integrate P2P parkings – including EV charging – together with other commercial parking.
